I remember some of 70 WC. From what I remember, the quality of most contending teams and matches, it tops 82 for me.
you had Brazil, Italy, Germany and defending champs England facing each other round after round and producing classics for generations to come.
82 is a very close second for me.followed by 74.

I think Brazil 2002 was the most amazing: Rolando, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Lucio, ... And subs like Denilson and Juninho.
I don't think we can compare modern era with 70's and even 80's, things have changed so much

I became a Germany fan after this game when I was only 5 years old and my 6 year old brother became an England fan.
You can only imagine the rivalry in our household. We watched it live in Rasht using live broadcast via Bakoo.

Trivia : who was the famous English referee that awarded Holland a penalty (foul on Cruyff) in the first minute of the final against W.Germany?
Taylor was a big name here in England, he came to Iran once or twice to ref the Tehran derby.
So he was well known and then the penalty call on Cruyff.

He was a formidable ref , well respected here in England.

I also watched some of the 70 WC games at odd hours of night via Baku feed

I rather think you are describing WC2006 (Juninho didn't play in 2002, did he?)??

2006 had even a better team on paper. All those names you mentioned for 2002 minus Rivaldo, add to that Kaka (he didn't play in 2002), Dida in goal, Ze Roberto. There was a star in every single position. Really really good team. But not always a star studded team can work well together.
