Anyway, can someone explain why Benzema's goal was offside? There was a Liverpool player in the 6 yard box covering. How the hell was that offside?

It was a correct call, Benzema was in offside position, that was very clear, however, what VAR was looking at was to see if the pass to him was intentional or not, IMO it was not, he was sliding hit his knee and ball went to Karim, so it was the right call.

I knew it. The game went exactly as I predicted.

And after 600 years of watching football I realise that I didn't fully understand the offside rule!
Apparently a defender behind the goalkeeper doesn't count.

A player is in offside position if there are less than 2 players between him and the goal. Note it says players and not goal keeper.
