u.s. only imports 1% of it's oil from russia.

the eu did not join the boycott since as the chart on
the previous page shows they will freeze into an ice
cream bar if they do so.

hence, a big deep yawn will be the reaction to the u.s. boycott :p

Those nuclear plants in Ukraine ought to be a major concern for all parties involved in this war.
Some mis-fired missiles can cause catastrophic consequences for the whole region.

LVIV, Ukraine — Russian forces have now seized two Ukrainian nuclear power plants and are advancing toward a third, Ukraine’s president said during a call with U.S. senators Saturday.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the third plant currently under threat is the Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant, located 75 miles north of Mykolaiv, one of several cities the Russians were trying to keep encircled Saturday.

One of the plants under the Russians' control is the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in the southeastern city of Enerhodar, the biggest nuclear power plant in Europe. The other is Chernobyl, which is not active but is still staffed and maintained. Previous Russian shelling sparked a fire at the Zaporizhzhia plant that was extinguished without a release of radiation.

Technical safety systems are intact and radiation levels are still normal at the Zaporizhzhia plant, according to the country’s nuclear regulator, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Saturday.

Ukraine has four nuclear plants with a total of 15 reactors.

I do not think the number is 1%, more like 4-5%. Russia may not feel the bite from the US oil boycott, but US might. It is such a tight market that even this step will increase oil prices, unless other parties buy that 4% which is very possible. At the same time, Canada has banned Russian oil, and countries in Europe may be forced into doing something to follow US.

Nordstream 2 has not been turned on. Some talk of shutting down Nordtream 1. Both events will be pretty good for US exports of LNG to Europe, both in short and long term.

The Iran deal is kind of the wild card. If Iran comes back to the market, it will help the supply side pretty quickly. Apparently Iran has a lot of oil stored in various places that can be released to the market as soon as a deal is concluded. Various sources claim Iran can easily put another 2 MB/day on the market.

At the same time, US seems to be courting Venezuela as a hedge against higher prices now.

What a wild wild time. Some groups are cashing in big on all this volatility.

It does not matter that U.S share of russian oil expoert is minuscule.

any dislocation might result in a price increase on short term basis. (for Gasoline, ...)

but the more important consideration is uncertainity about how U.S law can cascade to other countries.

i don't beleive the u.s. will put any secondary sanctions
on russian energy productions. even if they do the eu will
not abide by them.

if eu boycotts russian energy selectively too then putin will
just shut off the gas supply to them all together and the eu
as a whole will face civil unrest.

this is becoming an infliciton point in world affairs. if the u.s.
policy makers(not the 2 bit slaves in the congress) are smart
they will use this oppurtunity to pull iran away form the china
and russia camp. but they have to pay a big price and that is to
stop their 100% uncondtional support for the apartheid regime.
that's the only way iran will play ball with them.

by the looks of things the "west" is becoming the past as the
world turns and the future belongs to china, iran and russia.
unless the 'west' stops it's incremental eutinasia and takes
iran away from the axis (y)

the spoils of all the grandstanding for confrontation with Russia goes to USA.

and the Europeans seems to be holding the bag.

I wonder if the irish leasing firms have some kind of insurance for geo political situation.
I see that while Emirates and Qatar are still flying into Moscow Aeroflot concluded its last flight on March 7th.

Step 1. Taliban back to power: the south route of new Silk Road is endangered.
Step 2. Russia was fooled to invade Ukraine and then sanctioned. The north route of new Silk Road is blocked. Moreover Europe is forced to avoid dependence on Russian energy.

Brilliant moves to block the ambitious economic project of Chinese and Russian energy monopoly in Europe which were the biggest strategic threats to American hegemony.

I have not see the russian response to the hospital bombing.
I wonder what they concoct together
The Russians claim that the hospital was evacuated a week before and the building was occupied by the Ukrainian army. Who the hell knows who is telling the truth. There does not seem to be any independent news outlets anymore.

But the US media is shameful. The same guys who were breathlessly covering the Shock and Awe 20 years ago, celebrating the destruction when US was destroying power plants, hospitals, bridges, schools, etc....Are bemoaning the loss of life and property in Ukraine. By some estimates 500,000, may be more Iraqis dies and many more became refugees for no good reason. And now they are talking about "war crimes"...Really.

russia is planning to take over foriegn owned companies

google "take over an abandoned business" ;)

Russia Devises Plan to Seize Firms Abandoned in Foreigner Exodus

Russia’s government moved closer to seizing and even nationalizing foreign-owned companies that are leaving the market over the invasion of Ukraine while planning measures to coax others into staying.

In the first explicit response to the exodus of foreign businesses from Ikea to McDonald’s Corp., the Economy Ministry has outlined new policies to take temporary control of departing companies where foreign ownership exceeds 25%.

Under the proposals, a Moscow court would consider requests from board members and others to bring in external managers. The court could then freeze shares of foreign-owned companies as part of an effort to preserve property and employees.

External management could include state development bank VEB.RF, according to a ministry statement. Owners would have five days to resume activity or resort to other options such as selling their stake.
