Say that to mr. only eses pespes, aka CQ!
In my opinion, now that Nekounam is playing in Iran and Queiroz cant use the "he's a European based player" so he has to start, i am really curious to see if Nekounam continues to play poorly he will replace him with 2 of the strongest defensive midfielders we have in Iran, Ebrahimi and Reza Haghighi.

I even think Team Melli's midfield should consist of Nekounam & Karimi on the bench, and put Ebrahimi & Haghighi alongside Teymorian as the starting 3 midfielders.
Personally i am a huge fan of both Haghighi & Ebrahimi, specially Ebrahimi, i think this kid is something very special.

He's not really a kid though, is he? How old is he?

But I agree about Karimi at least. I don't even know what he would do on the bench. I wouldn't invite him at all. IMO, he's finished. But I think Nekounam has too much international experience compared to our other players to be put aside. I would like to see afew more games from him in TM to decide whether anybody else is a better option. But at the very least the others should have definitely been invited before. But I guess Maziyar Zareh was a better option since he played in pespes.

He's 24 turning 25 this year, i didn't mean it literal when i called him a kid lol. Hopefully Maziar Zareh's move to Malavan will poise Queiroz to stop inviting him, also add Pejman Nouri to the list of players i hope don't get invited anymore.

If Queiroz is so keen on physical & players who run, just replace Nouri & Zareh with Haghighi & Ebrahimi. I still cant believe that Pejman Nouri is a starter sometimes with the amount of younger and better midfielders we have in the country. Is Pejman Nouri Queiroz's idea of rejuvenating Team Melli?

Nekounam will continue to be a starter for Team Melli under Queiroz, even continue to captain! I just hope he picks up his form cause in terms of distributing the ball, when he's on form, he's untouchable in Iran & when he's in the mood, Iran plays better.

[edit] Early career and overseas

Miličević attended secondary school at St James College in East Bentleigh. His career in football began at the Australian Institute of Sport, where he captained the side to two consecutive National Youth League titles. He then entered professional football with Melbourne Knights in Australia, playing one game in the NSL before moving to Perth Glory in 1999, where he scored on his debut and played a major role in getting the Western Australian side to its first ever NSL Grand Final in 2000 where he made a name for himself by being the youngest player to ever score in an Australian grand final. Suffering a serious knee injury in the first game of the World Youth Cup in Argentina hampered his chances of moving to German giants Hertha Berlin. Later that same year he finally went to Europe and went on to play for FC Zurich, FC Basel, FC Thun and BSC Young Boys in Switzerland. The latter two clubs Miličević captained in the Swiss Super League and European competition at the age of 25. He also captained the Australian Under-20 side at the World Youth Cup in 2001 in Argentina and later the Australian Olympic Team that qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens; unfortunately, he missed the competition due to a groin injury he sustained during qualification.

[edit] Melbourne Victory FC

On 20 February 2007 it was announced that Miličević had signed for the reigning A-League champions Melbourne Victory. He was not home long before he again drew interest from abroad with Croatian heavyweights Hajduk Split and Dinamo Zagreb both chasing his signature. Miličević declared the only club he would ever play for in Croatia would be his childhood dream team Hajduk Split, citing both the fanatical Torcida and close friend Josip Skoko as inspirations. His time with the Victory was marred by a long-term knee injury he incurred on the opening day of the season. His contract with Melbourne Victory was "mutually terminated" on 22 February 2008.[1]

[edit] Time Away From The Game

It was revealed during January 2009 that Milicevic had suffered from depression throughout his time playing overseas. He then started training with Dandenong City in 2009 in a bid to regain fitness and get his personal life back in order.[2]

[edit] Newcastle United Jets FC

On 4 February 2009 he signed a one-year deal with the Newcastle Jets.[3] Miličević surprised coach Gary van Egmond with his level of fitness and immediately set about imposing a sense of drive and vigour on the training paddock,[4] something which many felt that the Jets had distinctly lacked in the course of their disastrous A-League title defence in 2008-09.[5]

His return to competitive football was anticipated by fans and the media alike,[6] and despite the Jets' shaky performance in their opening 2-0 away loss in the Asian Champions League to Beijing Guoan,[7] Miličević starred in the their subsequent game, a 2-0 victory over Korea's Ulsan Hyundai in which he marshalled the defence impressively and, along with some inspired goalkeeping by departing custodian Ante Čović, helped the Jets to their first competitive clean sheet in fourteen games. After joining Newcastle, Miličević was adopted as a cult hero by the Newcastle fans, something not seen since Milton Rodriguez was at the club.On 18 March 2010, Miličević signed a one-year contract extension with the Jets until the end of the 2010-2011 becoming Captain yet again and leading the team to the best defensive record in the league A-League season.[8]

[edit] Free Agency and South Melbourne FC

On 12 January 2011, it was announced that Milicevic was not going to re-sign for the Jets and left for Switzerland, where he trialled with former club FC Basel in the Swiss Super League.[9] However, he did not agree to terms with Basel, nor was another option pursued with German second division club Arminia Bielefeld. He had to wait until the European summer before committing to a new deal.[10] In March 2011, he signed a short-term contract with Victorian Premier League club South Melbourne FC to keep himself fit, intending to return to Europe for the beginning of the 2011/12 season.[11][12]

[edit] Hajduk Split

On 8 June 2011, it was announced that Miličević had signed a contract with Croatian club Hajduk Split.[13] After struggling with injuries during the first half-season, Miličević and Hajduk agreed on contract termination, leaving Miličević as a free agent.[14]

[edit] International career

Miličević captained both the Young Socceroos and Olyroos. After being made captain, he went to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina in 2001

Miličević has also been capped for Australia. His senior debut was against Indonesia at Subiaco Oval, Perth in March 2005; he then made three appearances at the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup against Germany, Argentina and Tunisia.

Ahli all set despite injuries

Wednesday, 19 September 2012 03:23

Esfahan: Al Ahli coach Karel Jarolim has downplayed the likely absence of Brazilian striker Victor Simoes for the first leg of the Saudi club’s AFC Champions League quarter-final tie against Sepahan on Wednesday.

Simoes is the Jeddah club’s leading scorer in the competition with five goals including a crucial extra-time equaliser in the Round of 16 tie against UAE side Al Jazira, which Al Ahli eventually won on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

However an injury is expected to rule out the Brazilian from Wednesday’s game at the Foolad Shahr Stadium, which will be the third AFC Champions League meeting this year between the two clubs.

Defenders Mohammed Massad and Aqeel Baalghayth are also expected to be sidelined by injury but Jarolim is confident that his side can overcome those absences and prevail in the quarter-final tie.

“It is not a very big issue for us,” said the Czech. “In fact, we didn’t play many of our regular players in our two previous matches against Sepahan.

“We also know that they (Sepahan) have also changed several of their players (from the group stage) as well.”

The teams also met during the group stage with the game in Jeddah finishing in a 1-1 draw and Sepahan edging the return game in Esfahan 2-1 to top Group C.

Despite that defeat, Jarolim is more than happy to see his side drawn once again with their familiar foes and he is hopeful of a positive result in Esfahan this time around.

“I don’t think that we have a choice. We will be trying to grab a win in Esfahan and go back home with a good advantage for the second leg,” he said.

Sepahan ready for Al Ahli

Wednesday, 19 September 2012 03:26

Esfahan: Sepahan coach Zlatko Krancjar has admitted that he has a healthy respect for Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli but he believes that his team will still prevail in their AFC Champions League quarter-final tie.

The two teams meet in the first leg at the Foolad Shahr Stadium in Esfahan on Wednesday, their third clash this year after they were also drawn together in Group C during the opening round.

Sepahan had the better of the group stage matches, drawing 1-1 in Jeddah and winning the closing match 2-1 in Esfahan to top the group and Krancjar is confident that they will continue their good results against the Saudi club in the last eight.

“We respect Al Ahli because they are quite a good team, but we are not afraid of them at all,” said the Croatian.

“What is clear is that Al Ahli have prepared themselves well and are determined to go through to the semi-finals.

“But we have also been doing our best to get our best level of preparation ahead of this important match and I am sure that everyone will see a good performance from my players tomorrow.”

Al Ahli will reportedly be missing their top scorer, Victor Simoes, for the first leg, but Krancjar said that the absence of the Brazilian striker would not make much difference in his team’s preparations for the game.

“I have instructed my players to put out an attacking display on the pitch and we never think about who is sidelined or who is playing,” he said.

“Fortunately we have high motivation for the match tomorrow. Recently, we’ve been creating many scoring chances, but we’ve had some difficulty converting them. However, I am sure that wouldn’t happen again against the Saudi Arabian team.

“I believe our fans always back us well in our home matches and we’ll be playing for the pride of Iranian football.”
